The learner should be able to:
- explain the importnace of soft skills in interacting
- describe the essentials of negotiation
- explain the key principles to communicate and lead in different situations
- identify appropriate tools for leadership practice
- apply tools to rely on through leadership practice
This Workshop includes 3 activities. The first activity explains the difference between Soft and Hard Skills. It analyzes a set of non-specialized cross-professional skills responsible for building a career, interaction with a team, and relationships with others. The second activity practices the strategies and skills to help trainees become successful negotiators in their personal life and business transactions. The third activity identifies leaders’ skills and explains when specific leadership styles are appropriately used. Finally, there is a short online quiz that allows the self-assessment of the trainees.
This Workshop starts with emphasize on soft skills. Soft skills are personality traits and behaviors that will help candidates get hired and succeed in their work. Soft skills are interpersonal and behavioral skills that help you work well with other people and develop your career. After completing the second activity, students be able to state the key stages of negotiation. Negotiation is also the key to business success. At a strategic level, entrepreneurs are concerned with value creation and achieving competitive advantage. But the success of high-level business strategies depends on contracts made with suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders. Contracting capability—the ability to negotiate and perform successful contracts—is the important function in any organization. The third activity identifies leaders’ skills and explains when specific leadership styles are appropriately used. This activity covers what a leader is, why leadership is important, leadership styles, and advantages and disadvantages.
Experiential workshops may entail a form of resistance by the participants as their active participation is required. Thus, if the participants are distant, a couple of ice breaking activities may be required. However, every experienced trainer knows how to deal worth such situations. Furthermore, some concepts presented may need more details for the participants to achieve the learning outcomes, which is why the partnership provides additional resources.
Step by step instructions for the preparation and implementation of the workshop
Step 1: Start with a brief introduction to difference between hard and soft skills (PPT).
Step 2: Split student into groups
Step 3: Pass out to participants the exercise Worksheet (Attachment 0.2).
Step 4: Ask each group to think about what made the experience so successful.
Step 5: Get the group to discuss what they think the elements of success are.
Step 6: You can write down the elements of success on a flip chart.
Step 1: Briefly present steps in negotiation process (PPT).
Step 2: Pass out to participants the exercise Worksheet (Attachment 0.3).
Step 3: Give the students 20 minutes to finish writing.
Step 4: After 30 minutes, each student will present its negotiation analysis.
Step 5: Close with a discussion.
Step 1: Make a brief presentation on leadership and leadership styles (PPT).
Step 2: Divide the learners into groups.
Step 3: Each group discussing leaders they know and why they admire them.
Step 4: After 30 minutes groups come back together for a larger discussion and communication session at the end.
